El Teniente Division, Codelco Chile

Poch developed the entire engineering, supervision and start-up of the signaling system and centralized command of the railway system.

Description of the Project:
Codelco is the main copper producer in the world. Its operating divisions are in charge of the deposits’ exploitations, the processing of minerals and the obtaining of the metal and by-products for shipping to the different markets in a global level.

Codelco has five mining divisions with similar productive processes, a smelting and a refinery. Their divisions are:
- Codelco Norte Division.
- Salvador Division.
- Ventanas Division.
- Andina Division.
- El Teniente Divisio.

El Teniente focuses its operations in the exploitation of the biggest underground copper mine in the world with a production of more than 400 thousand metric tons of copper per year.

With nearly 2.400 km of underground galleries, the transportation of material by trains is indispensable. The projects developed by Poch in these matters cover the signaling, automation, the centralized command and tele-transmission for the levels Teniente 8, Teniente 5 Central and Teniente 5 Norte.

Our importance:
Poch was responsible for the development of the Automatic Control Engineering, in its design, basic and details phases, together with the technical supervision of sites, commissioning  and start-up of the whole signaling system.

Essential benefit:
The control systems and centralized command of the signaling of railway networks are probably some of the most critical systems and where more security and technical robustness is required. The contribution of Poch in these projects is backed up by the performance and trustworthiness of the signaling system and commands, system with more than 20 years of operation to date.
